I really haven't decided whether I will make time to blog on this next adventure -- but since I'm considering it, I figured I'd at least reserve a name for it.
Why do I blog?
- Mostly for myself: I get pleasure from writing about my adventures and thoughts -- trying to find the right words to briefly describe the experiences and thoughts of each day -- and I get pleasure from rereading the trip details that remind me of details of the trip.
- Some for my family and friends to keep up on where I am and what I'm experiencing.
What is this blog about?
The last time I traveled overseas was in October 2013 on my third trip to China (http://tworoadschina3.blogspot.com) -- and that trip was cut short by the death of my dad. Since that trip, I've definitely taken an unexpected "road less traveled" but my life has finally calmed enough to allow me to give in to the wanderlust spirit that has always been within me. I knew that I wanted to return to China to finish out the previously interrupted trip, and because I love the challenges that China travel brings. However, I also wanted to add to my experiences by visiting other places in SE Asia (greatly inspired by the travels of my younger daughter and her husband while they were teaching English in China in 2009/2010 -- they blogged here: https://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Staci-and-Martin/).
So, after lots of time scouring travel web sites -- especially the newer http://flights.google.com -- I hit upon an unbelieveably low fare of $660 to fly from Portland to Bali, Indonesia and return from Shanghai to Portland on Delta Airlines. The fare (which disappeared the next day) was enough to motivate me to put the very first bookends on a new adventure. Shortly thereafter, I added some inexpensive regional flights on discount airline Tiger Air to get me from Bali to Shenzhen -- and the new adventure was created. It looks like this:
October3 - Depart Portland via DL
October 5 - Arrive in Bali (after long layover in Singapore)
October 16 - Arrive Singapore
October 20 - Depart Singapore and arrive Shenzhen
October 31- Depart Shanghai and arrive Portland
I'll share more of the trip details in future blog postings.
Welcome to the start of my first ever trip to Indonesia and Singapore -- and my 4th trip to China.
